Record-Setting Week for Coloured Diamonds at Sotheby’s

New records were set for prices per carat and prices per stone for coloured diamonds last month. The top lot at Sotheby’s auction was The Graff Vivid Yellow, a rare 100.09-carat VS2 cushion-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond ring. It sold for $16,347,847, setting a new world auction records for a yellow diamond. (more…)

Christie’s HK Magnificent Jewels Sale Sets Record

Recently Christie’s Hong Kong auction house set a world record for an intense green diamond when a 6.13-carat, VS2, fancy intense green cushion-shaped diamond ring achieved $594,510 per carat. A 9.38-carat, pear-shaped, fancy intense pink diamond ring achieved $636,117 per carat. A 12.93 carat, VS2, rectangular, fancy orangy-pink diamond by Harry Winston achieved $281,852 per carat.

Coloured Diamonds Reach Record Prices

As reported in the Globe and Mail, May 15, 2014-05-15

The Blue, the largest, 13.22 carats,  flawless vivid blue diamond ever sold at auction sold for $24.2-million (U.S.) at a Christie’s auction in Geneva on May 14, 2014.

One day before, the 100 carat Graff Vivid Yellow diamond sold for $16.3-million at a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva, setting a record sale price for a yellow diamond. (more…)
